Meet The Team

Terry McCallum, P. Geo.
Chairman & CEO

Mr. McCallum is a Professional Geologist with 20 years experience. 

 

He has held senior level positions throughout his career including

VP Exploration, COO, EVP, and CEO. 

 

His past companies include Draig Energy (NAL), Markedon Energy (Espirit), Glamis Resources (Legacy

Oil and Gas) and Torquay Oil Corp. (Canera Energy).

 

He has branched into real estate, agriculture lands, and the hotel and restaurant industries.

He retired from the energy sector in 2014 until recently purchasing the Golden Spike asset in June 2018.

Rod Monden, CA, CPA
CFO

Mr. Monden is a Chartered Professional Accountant (C.A.) with more than 25 years of experience.

 

He held the position of Controller for Surge Energy Inc. from March 2010 to May 2021.

 

Prior to that he was the Controller for Breaker Energy Ltd. From January 2008 until its acquisition by NAL Oil & Gas Trust in December 2009.

 

As well, he held the position of VP Finance and Chief Financial Officer of a private junior oil and gas company from September 206 to October 2008.

 

Mr. Monden also worked as a Manager, Financial Reporting & Budgets at Burlington Resources Canada Ltd. From September 2002 to August 2006.

Trevor Dublonko, P. Eng.
VP Operations

Mr. Dublonko is a Professional Engineer with 18 years experience in the upstream O&G sector.  

 

Prior to joining Free Rein he held management and technical roles at Burlington Resources and ConocoPhillips where he gained experience in operations and development of both conventional

and unconventional oil and gas fields in Canada, the US, southern Europe and north Africa.

Natalie Heffernan B. Comm.
VP Land & Business Development

Ms. Heffernan is an experienced professional with 20 years in corporate, public, and private enterprise.

 

She has worked in diverse operational environments including Oil and Gas, Public Relations, Aviation, and Fuel Supply Management.

 

She graduated with a B.Comm-PLM from the University of Calgary working at EnCana and Cenvous as a mineral landman, specializing in negotiating, asset management, and

business development for the  companies.

Dr. Chris Galas, Ph.D., P. Eng.
Director of Carbon Sequestration

Dr. Galas is a Petroleum reservoir Engineer, currently semi-retired. His career includes 10 years with Sproule & Associates Limited as Manager, EOR Reservoir Studies (from which he retired in 2013), 12 years with his private company Galas & Associates Ltd., and 10 years with BP Canada. Chris’ main interests’ areas of expertise include: numerical simulation, reservoir studies and EOR, using both simulation and analytical methods. He holds degrees from Cambridge University, London University, and the University of Calgary. 

During his career, Dr. Galas has published 14 technical papers (including a guest editorial for the Journal of Canadian Petroleum Technology); taught 6 industry courses; conducted 296 reservoir studies on 184 oil and gas pools, including over 100 waterflood studies; and worked on oil and gas projects in 5 Canadian provinces, 6 US states and 20 other countries. He is a professional member of APEGA (P.Eng.) and a member of The Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Ted Hirst

Head of Global Investment Banking

Canaccord Genuity Corp

Mr. Hirst is currently the Managing Director, Head of Global Investment Banking at Canaccord Genuity Corp.

 

He was the founder of Genuity Capital Markets in 2004 which he sold to Canaccord in 2010. Mr. Hirst was also Head of North American Mining at CIBC World Markets. As Head of CIBC World Markets, he led his team to become ranked as the best global mining M&A group in 1996.

 

Mr. Hirst has extensive experience in mining finance,
and since 1996 he has completed over 50 M&A advisory assignments. These assignments include the joint acquisition of Osisko Gold for Yamana Gold in 2014, the acquisition of B2 Gold for Papillon Resources and the Eagle of Cayden Resources acquisition by Agnico. Prior to his position with CIBC, he was Co-Head of Corporate Finance for Bankers Trust Canada. Mr. Hirst graduated with a B.B.A from the Schulich Business School in 1985.

Brent Dunnigan

CEO  Hunter Oil and Gas

Mr. Dunnigan founded several successful oil and gas companies in SE Saskatchewan including Walking Stick Oil & Gas, Danforth Oil & Gas Ltd.,
Helmsman Resources, and Arista Energy.

 

Mr. Dunnigan also funded Armada Resources to provide Engineering and Consulting services.

 

Today Mr. Dunnigan is the C.E.O of Hunter Oil & Gas Ltd and has been on the board of a number of different oil and gas and provincial agriculture businesses, namely Tetonka Resources, Epping Energy Inc, and Crusader Drilling.

 

He has also held board positions with Prairie Pride Credit Union, Sask. Canola, and Enterprise Saskatchewan with the Premier.
